About Mike

Mike Mauno

Mike Mauno is small businessman, former city council member, and lifelong resident of Torrance.

Mike was born and raised here in Torrance. His commitment to public service began at a young age, when Mike was elected as the senior class president at Torrance High School and the student body president at El Camino College. Since then, for over 50 years, Mike has dedicated much of his life to improving our community.

Mike served on the Torrance Planning Commission before his election to the Torrance City Council. At the City, Mike was a voice for fiscal responsibility, accountability, and smart land-use decision making. Mike led critical policy efforts like banning smoking on local beaches, preserving historic Old Torrance, included signage and architectural guidelines, and preventing excessive growth that would change the character of the community.

Over the years, Mike also represented Torrance at a number of important regional and statewide organizations, including as a board member for the Torrance-South Bay YMCA, the Redevelopment Agency of City of Torrance, the Torrance Public Facilities & Building Corp., the Torrance Improvements Corporation, the Long-Term Facilities Utilization Committee of the Torrance Unified School District, and the Los Angeles County West Vector Control District.

Mike is a renowned community watchdog— having exposed fraud among local homeless services providers and worked to find long-term solutions to prevent the local refinery from impacting Torrance’s quality of life.

Mike earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from CSU Long Beach, completed the Business Management Certificate Program at UCLA, and earned his associate’s degree in construction technology from El Camino College.

Professionally, Mike runs a small business, Nordik Construction LLC, which provides construction management services to local clients. In that role, Mike oversees all aspects of the construction process, including the management design professionals, architecture, engineering, contracting, and overseeing the entitlement process. Mike has served numerous families and small business across Torrance by managing construction projects and improvements. Mike has also served as an expert witness on construction defects.

Mike raised three children in Torrance, all graduates of Torrance Unified School District.
