A WATCHDOG FOR TORRANCE

Mike Mauno is a small businessman, former city council member, and lifelong resident of Torrance.

On the Issues

Mike Mauno is a longtime community watchdog who will fight for Local Control, Accountability and Public Safety. Take
a look at some of the key issues Mike is focusing on:

The Future of the Torrance Refinery

I am one of the only local leaders willing to stand up to “big oil” and demand an end to dangerous chemicals leaching into our neighborhoods from the Torrance Refinery. I even wrote a book providing a realistic land use plan when the refinery is decommissioned including environmental clean-up the plant and a new beneficial land use for the community’s tax base.

Bringing Accountability to Homelessness Spending

When the County of Los Angeles forced a homeless shelter for drug addicts and mentally ill right in the middle of a residential neighborhood, I successfully led the charge to oppose the project. We won that fight, and in doing so, exposed serious allegations of fraud among local homeless service providers.

Protecting Taxpayers at City Hall

With over 50 years of experience as a volunteer, appointed commissioner, and elected city councilmember, I know the inner workings of City Hall better than anyone. I also have decades of business experience to apply to local government and ensure taxpayer resources are being spent appropriately, effectively, and efficiently.

Investing in Public Safety

Rising crime has made our neighborhoods less safe and our community a less desirable place to live. We need to reprioritize public safety in our community, and that starts with ensuring our first responders, Torrance Police Officers and Torrance Firefighters, are paid competitively and fairly to attract the best public safety professionals from around the region.

Governors inauguration

Dear Neighbor,

I love Torrance. I grew up here, went to school here, started my business here, and my wife and I raised our children here. I will never stop fighting to protect Torrance and ensure our community remains such a wonderful place to call home.

As your City Councilmember, I will always stand up for local control, accountability and public safety. And I will always fight to keep Torrance "Torrance" and prevent the failed policies of Los Angeles County from impacting our quality of life.

I would be honored to have your vote. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with your comments and questions.

Sincerely,
Mike Mauno
